GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – Cayman Islands produced another brave performance, but Honduras capitalised on their chances to win 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Girls U-15 Championship on Wednesday.
Captain Lauren Scott put the host in the lead in the 16th minute after both teams battled for possession early. Honduras equalised in the 28th through Lisbeth Bonilla.
In the second half Bonilla gave her side the advantage in the 47th. Cayman then had a chance to level the score but Scott, pushed a penalty over the crossbar.
The Central Americans capitalised and doubled their lead with Sharon Moreira tucking home their third goal in the 65th minute. Cayman got a glimmer of hope when ever present defender Tyra Mcfield found the nets in the final minute of regulation, but it was the Hondurans who held on for a hard fought victory.
Honduras advances to face Canada on Friday in the semifinals.
