Fulfilling another part of its development plan, The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) will conduct events to commemorate the first CONCACAF Women’s Day on May 23.
The initiative was created by the confederation to provide an opportunity for member associations to convey the importance of developing women’s football.
“The Cayman Islands Football Association is excited to provide another opportunity to raise awareness to women’s football,” said CIFA First Vice President Bruce Blake. “We encourage girls and ladies to come out and participate in or watch the events and be part of the CONCACAF experience.”
The activities begin with a Women’s Football Conference on Thursday, May 21, at the Harquail Theatre. Hosted by American journalist, Ann Schatz, the forum will focus on the development of the local women’s leagues and highlight some of the game’s best players. The evening’s second panel features local football administrators and will focus on plans for the future.
“The forum gives the administrators an additional opportunity to receive feedback from the people we serve; the teams, the administrators, the coaches, the players and the fans,” said Chairwoman of the CIFA Women’s Committee Martha Godet. “We intend to make the most of the opportunity to discuss our game and hear from various stakeholders on how best we can improve together. This is a celebration of what has been achieved in women’s football, but also a time of reflection and planning.”
Following on from a successful girls grassroots festival earlier this month, the celebration will continue with an hour of playing beach soccer at Public Beach on Saturday, 23 May.
Girls will participate in drills and fun games aimed at building the participation in the beach version of the game.
“CIFA looks forward to the continued support of players, parents and all stakeholders for these events,” said Godet. “This will be an unforgettable experience.”
