GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman – A hat trick from Chelsea Green propelled host Cayman Islands to a 5-0 victory over Bermuda at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Green opened the scoring in the 15thwith a free kick that found the target from 25 yards out. She added goals in the 25th and 30 minutes to send the 1100 fans at the venue in rapture.
Sabrina Suberan (23rd)and Deondra Kelly (70th) completed the rout for the home team.
Green who played for the Cayman Under 20 Women’s team in the World Cup qualifiers in January, was named Player of the Match for her performance.
On Friday, Cayman returns to action on Friday against Bahamas.
Honduras edge brave Bermuda
Honduras opened their account of the CONCACAF Girls U-15 Championship with a 1-0 victory over Bermuda at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.
Andrea Lopez capitalized on a mistake by Bermudian goalkeeper Micah Pond, to lob the ball in an open net in the 21st minute.
Both teams started nervously, with some errant passing, but it was Honduras’ Marcelo Santos who controlled the tempo and execution in the midfield.
Santos was the key play maker as the Central Americans pressed to add to their lead, but without luck.
Bermuda grew in confidence led by the poise of Captain Leah Smith, but they were unable to break down the Honduras defence.
At the end of an exhausting opener played at high pace and in humid temperatures, both teams showed flashes of brilliance, the Hondurans led by Player of the Match Santos earned the points.
