Reynolds and Roma march into President's Cup final

Roma United Football Club has credited a new approaches to training and team bonding for their unbeaten start to the Cayman Islands Premier League season.

Led by strikers Gavin Reynolds and Gawayne Speed, Roma defeated George Town SC and Cayman Brac FC in the opening two fixtures of the season.

With a maximum six points, Roma shares the lead at the top of the standings with Cayman Athletic who are also undefeated.

Roma United Manager George Thomas told, “The team camaraderie, team spirit and training has helped the start this season.”

“Roma’s start to the season is basically down to the hard work of the coaches, the players are much more dedicated to the training sessions this season.

Last season Roma United showed glimpses of form when they topped the Foster’s Division One League and battled to a hard fought loss 1-0 to Elite in the FA Cup final.

Though early days, Roma United has made their intention clear, win the Premier League and then test their skills against the best in the region.

Thomas added, “We aim to take it one match at a time, one Sunday at a time. Our goal like everyone else is to win the league and to enter the Caribbean Football Union Club Championship.”

Support for Roma’s efforts hasn’t been lacking as the club draws supporters in the hundreds to their matches.

Thomas said the attendance and interest is also part of a renewed effort by the club.

“Our games are usually well attended, but now, as a club we are trying to get Roma shirts and horns for our fans to ensure there is more excitement at the games. This adds to our philosophy, which is to play attractive and entertaining football.”

In week three of the Premier League on Sunday, October 5, Roma and Cayman Athletic meet in an early season top of the table match on Sunday at the T.E Mcfield Sports Centre.

In other matches on Sunday, Sunset FC tackles George Town SC, both teams searching for their first win this season at the Annex. In West Bay, Scholars International Hosts reigning champions Bodden Town FC.

On Saturday, Cayman Brac FC meets Elite SC at the Ed Bush Sports Centre.
